FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Pilates?

Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s as a way to strengthen the entire body. The movements are precise, flowing, and challenging and rely on a strong connection to the mind. With an emphasis on the core (the muscles in the abdomen, the inner thighs, and the seat), the primary focus is on correct posture, realignment of the body, and learning efficient movement patterns. At the root of every exercise are the six principles, Concentration, Centering, Control, Breath, Precision, and Flow.

How often should I do Pilates?

Joseph Pilates recommended doing Pilates every day, however with our busy lives and schedules, many people find that one to three classes per week are enough to feel the benefits.

What should I wear to do Pilates?

Wear comfortable, fitted clothing that allows a full range of motion. Men can wear bike-style shorts with workout shorts over the top. Please try to avoid clothes that are too baggy as they can get caught in the apparatus.

Clean socks or sticky socks are required for your feet.

No jewelry or zippers, as they may damage the upholstery. No need to bring a mat, we have everything that you will need. You may bring a water bottle for yourself, but we do have a water cooler in the studio.

What should I expect when I arrive at the studio?

Please arrive no more than 5 minutes before your lesson start time.

Place your belongings in your cubby and silence your cell phone. If it is mandatory that you have your cell phone on for emergency purposes, you may place it on vibrate and underneath your reformer.

Please do not wear street shoes in and through the studio. Out of respect for the other students and instructors, please limit your conversations before and after class. We are an open studio, and voices carry. There is a small bistro table outside where you may enjoy the sunshine and some good conversation.

How do I get started?

New clients must take at least four private lessons before they enter a group apparatus class.

Mat classes are open and available to all levels and require no experience.

What is your cancellation policy?

Our space is limited, therefore we require all cancellations be made 24 hours in advance to allow the instructor to either fill the spot or adjust their schedule. Cancellations made after this window will be charged in full. Please be respectful of our instructor’s valuable time.

When do packages expire?

All packages have a FIVE WEEK expiration date from the day of the first visit. The Pilates exercise training method requires practice; you must practice regularly to see results and feel the benefits.
